Desenvolvimento de aplicações educativas em Geologia: um exemplo

The inexistence of petrographical microscopes in portuguese secondary schools leads to a totallack ofknowledge about one ofthe basic tools to observe and characterise geological materiais. One way of solve this problem is to develop multimedia contents in portuguese and distribute them using on-line and off-line technologies. ln this paper we present a multimedia application that uses virtual reality techniques which allow the simulation of real petrographic observations (showing stage rotation with plane polarized light and with crossed polars). Some informations about the rock-forming minerais are ais o available to the user.
